Our workshops are designed for complete beginners as well as those wanting to explore traditional leathercraft in a more meaningful way.
Artisan & Lær workshops focus on gently guiding you in learning the real techniques behind handcrafted leather goods, taught step-by-step in a small-group setting.

What to Expect
• 9am – 4pm guided session
• 15-minute smoko break
• 30-minute lunch break
• Fully catered smoko and lunch included
• Fully air-conditioned venue
• All tools, materials, premium leather and quality hardware supplied
You will leave with a completed leather buckle display piece you’ve made yourself — guided step-by-step throughout the entire process.
What You’ll Learn
Throughout the workshop you will be guided through the full process of creating a fully tooled leather buckle display, learning traditional leathercraft techniques used in the design, tooling and construction of decorative leather pieces.
This is a more in-depth workshop, covering the complete process from preparing the leather through to finishing a professionally presented display piece.
Skills and techniques covered include:
• Understanding different types of leather and their purposes
• Cutting leather accurately to shape
• Creating and laying out balanced tooling designs
• Transferring designs onto leather correctly
• Properly casing leather and understanding why it is essential for tooling
• Carving designs using a swivel knife
• Creating depth and dimension through traditional tooling techniques
• Decorative cuts and detailing to enhance the design
• Achieving consistent stamping depth and clean impressions
• Tips and techniques used by professional leatherworkers during the tooling process
Construction and finishing techniques include:
• Measuring and layout for accurate construction
• Setting buckle hardware securely
• Applying dyes, paints and antique finishes
• Sealing and protecting the leather
• Edge finishing and burnishing techniques
• Conditioning and preparing leather for long-term durability
By the end of the workshop you will have created a fully tooled leather buckle display, while learning the traditional techniques used in professional leathercraft.
