Youโll leave with a completed leather Headstall youโve made yourself, guided step-by-step throughout the process.
What Youโll Learn
Throughout the workshop you will be guided through the full process of constructing a traditional leather headstall, learning the techniques used in tack making and working leather into functional equestrian gear.
Participants will create their choice of either a browband headstall or a one-ear headstall, learning the methods used to measure, prepare and assemble leather tack.
Skills and techniques covered include:
โข Understanding the types of leather used in tack making and their purpose
โข Measuring and laying out leather components for accurate construction
โข Trimming leather straps cleanly and accurately
โข Punching holes correctly for hardware and adjustment points
โข Using leatherworking tools and understanding their purpose
Construction and finishing techniques include:
โข Edge bevelling to create clean, professional strap edges
โข Burnishing edges for strength and durability
โข Setting hardware securely and correctly
โข Traditional hand stitching techniques used in leather goods
โข Tying traditional saddlery knots
โข Conditioning leather to protect and maintain the finished piece
By the end of the workshop you will have created a fully constructed leather headstall, while learning the practical techniques used in traditional tack making.

Suitable For
Best suited to adults and older high school students due to the tools and techniques involved.
Recommended age: 16+ or 14+ MUST be accompanied by a participating adult.

**MINIMUM BOOKINGS REQUIRED**
A minimum of eight (8) Participants per workshop is required for these workshops to go ahead. If minimum numbers are not reached within 10 days of the scheduled date, the workshop may be rescheduled and you will be offered the choice of your booking bering transferred to the next available Artisan and Laer workshop date, or, if this date does not suit, a full refund will be offered(Cannot be transferred to any other workshops other than Artisan and Laer Workshops).
Cancellations & Transfers
Due to the preparation and materials required for each participant, workshop bookings are non-refundable.
If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your booking to another person at any time prior to the workshop. It is the participants responsibility to arrange the replacement attendee. Artisan and Laer is not responsible for sourcing or managing replacement participants.
If at least 14 days notice is provided, your booking may be transferred to a future Artisan and Laer workshop (subject to availability).
Cancellations made within less than 14 days of the workshop and no-shows on the day will not be transferred or refunded.
